Early aircraft throttles had a ball on the end of it, in order to go full throttle the pilot had to push the throttle all the way forward into the wall of the instrument panel. Hence "balls to the wall" for going very fast. Now you know the rest of the story.
Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

Very interesting, although I'd guess the nickname was based more on the old Accept "balls to the wall" song. Either way it's still stupid as hell....

I always just thought it was a play in words with the song. Also, meaning he was in the high side and running the wall. Paul is to the wall.

English[edit]. Adjective[edit]. The metal balls of a centrifugal governor are pushed apart to a degree depending on the speed of a rotating shaft, providing negative feedback to the throttle. balls-out (not comparable). (US, idiomatic, slang)

"balls to the wall" has always meant all out........so the play on that as paul's ( paul is, not paul plural) to the wall is how I've always thought it to be. And the wall at a dirt track is as far out as you can go. I've always been fine with the nickname. But that's just me, of course.

Yeah, me too. I thought it was pretty cut and dried. Goddamn there has been a lot of analysis on this subject lately. Must be the offseason.... haha.
By the way, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you hosehead bastards. Have fun.

The Accept song I think was a reference to getting arrested when the cops put you up against the wall.

Damn good song too. Nothing fancy. Just a heavy ass metal song with good chunky riffs.

One of my top 5 jam songs of all time.
(And, the best metal song in history sung by someone 3 foot tall)
