Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA will no longer be running 410 sprints weekly and will begin to run 360 sprints weekly next year according to Petersen Media.

Frankly this is really suprising and sad.  While 410's seem to be thriving in the eastern 1/2 of the US, this move means there are zero winged 410 tracks west of the rocky mountains.  A very sad situation.

Just out of curiosity, I heard the 410 payouts for both the weekly Silver Dollar Shows and the King of the West are really poor.  Below what even weekly shows for the 360 sprints are.  Someone told me that Silver Dollar 410 shows were 1200 to win and 200 to start and the King of the West was only 2500 to win with 300 to start.  Does anyone know the full payouts?

Would be nice to see Chico keep the 410 payout and pay that to the 360 guys.

King of West Sprints per race purse listed below as on there site. A total of $17,500 for A main purse with $3k to win $500 to start. I believe that is a pretty average purse for a local/regional series. For comparison, Attica starts 20 cars and pays $3k to win and a total purse of $12,380. Removing the two extra spots in the KWS/NARC that's a roughly $4k increase based the top paying local show in OH. So I'd say the purse for KWS is about right where it should be. Pays well throughout IMO. Maybe bump the winners share a bit but I'd say it's fair from a distance.

The cancer continues to eat its own.  Congrats to those smart guys (and you know who you are) who for years in the early 2000"s swore up and down 360's were cheaper and the way to go.  Well now you have your wish, 410 are dying and the 360's are just as expensive.  Congrats to those smart guys out there who gave the promoters exactley a golden ticket, less purse and prize and NOW cost owners same money.  Well their are die hard 410 guys out there and as goes the 410 class goes the 410 owners, machanics and fans.  I know these guys and there not 360 fans< at ALL!   So good luck 360 guys hope your saving buckets of money and earning big league purses and prizes.  Ask yourself this,  would you rather have 50 cars half of which half is junk and starter drivers, or 25 cars of which 3/4 are hitters.  I guess the answer is 50 cars of which half is junk and rookie drivers so have fun, and enjoy those big purses.

Maybe they should label them "Sprint Cars" not 360 or 410. If they had a run what ya brung sprint car race, unless as a fan you know to look for down nozzles, fans wouldnt tell the difference between a 360 or 410. Even at a place like Knoxville, the difference between the two classis is 1/2 second one way and 1/2 second the other way. Be happy you still have local racing, and honestly, 410 or not, I could only wish that we had the caliber of sprint car racing as CA has here in NE, we have Knoxville, and most of those guys dont travel far. If you dont support it, thats how it dies. Theres nothing I hate more than seeing the same people come on here and complain about how there is no more sprint car racing in their area after they ex'd 360s too, when 2 years prior they were saying they weren't going to support it because it wasn't 410s.

Not sure if Knoxville has faster 360's or different rules but at the 1/2 mile tracks here the difference between a 360 and 410 is closer to 2 seconds.

Silver Dollar is a quarter-mile. The difference between a 410 and a 360 is half a second at most.

No it's not. The difference is closer to .8 or .9 of a second. Then the 305's are another .7 or .8 back from the 360's. 305's are not even 2 seconds back.

Reference: July 1, Pizza Hut Night.

Time Trails:
410, Brian Brown 15.561
360, Ryan Giles 16.433 (-0.872)
305, kade Higday 17.080 (-0.647, 1.519 back from the 410's)

Even on the World of Outlaws night, it was less than a second difference.

In the heat races, the 360's averaged 0.822 seconds slower per lap. The 305's averaged 1.619 seconds slower per lap.

How many tracks in California even run a weekly 360 show? Watsonville, Placerville, Marysville, any others? Petaluma? I'm throwing Hanford out because they don't run every week.

Watsonville runs winged 360s on Friday nights. Placerville and Marysville Run winged 360s on Saturday nights. Petaluma and Antioch both run winged 360s about twice a month on Saturdays. Hanford runs winged 360s about 6 or 8 times a year on Friday nights. Ventura runs nonwing 360s on Saturday nights.

In 2017, there were two traveling winged 360 series — Civil War and SCCT — and USAC ran a traveling nonwing 360 series.

I'm angry that the 410's won't be racing on a weekly basis at Silver Dollar.  Hoping the track will schedule 10 - 12 special events with 410's at least.  The 360's are the minor leagues, maybe like monster cup cars compared to xfinity cars.  410's with more horsepower are more of an animal to control, 360's more of a momentum deal. The 360's that have raced with the 410's pretty much suck in direct competion with them.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm just trying to wrap my head around Silver Dollar's move to 360's and I guess in theory it should pull more cars, and despite the increasing cost of a 360 engine, it is still cheaper to run a 360 than a 410.

the weekly Fridays shows here in chico have dwindled down to 8-10 410's, need  i say more?  the good news is that there will be plenty of  401 shows in 2018 here in Chico...

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

I've heard it cost as much to race a 401 as it does a 410.

Winged 410 sprint car racing in Calif covers a a big area from Tulare to Chico but sadly the only weekly show is at the north end with a great fan base just a long haul. I enjoy410 racing and travel some but I am 3 1/2 -4 hours to Chico it is a big comitment (70 years old).  Tulare lives and dies on the big shows Hanford has been blessed by a family that is dedicated to racing does a great job of keeping 360 wing and non wing 410 wing and non wing alive. Chico is the northern most track in our sport trying to keep a weekly 410 show  with no neighbors trying to help them keep a weekly 410 show alive. Seems like Stockton could develop a a succesful weekly 410 show, delta weather, good facility, big population base, big track. At least we have a great traveling series. BTW 3100 fans at the 410 winged asphalt show Irwindale Speedway So Cal, maybe just maybe they would like to see a few winged shows.

So it's a few "smart" guys who were in favor of the 360 divisions fault that racers all over the world always have been and always will be too stupid to figure out how to contain costs? It's not the "smart" guys on the message boards or the track promoters who are always asking for rule changes to allow faster and therefore more expensive parts, it's the racers, every single time.

The racers have been shooting themselves in the foot ever since there were 2 cars in existence!!!

The 360 class was originated at Midwest Speedway here in Lincoln, Nebraska as a cost-containment measure. It worked for about a New York second of course. The teams whined, wanting this or that change to the rules and it's become what you have today.

Sad, but people are always their own worst enemy.

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.
