BRODY ROA HAS TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX RIDE – ON COVER OF SPRINT CAR & MIDGET MAGAZINE!
(Buena Park, CA, October 26, 2017) After what turned out to be a bit of a tough Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway, good things have happened for Brody Roa and the BR Performance USAC/CRA Sprint Car team since. Early in the week, the latest issue of “Sprint Car & Midget” magazine hit the newsstands with Roa on the cover and featured inside. On Thursday, it was announced that he will be contesting the sprint car portion of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway on Thanksgiving and on Friday morning an announcement came that he has a ride for the USAC/Western Midget race this Saturday at Ventura.
The good news regarding Turkey Night came from Roa’s father Brett.
“Thanks to the good folks at HD Industries, it looks like Brody will be in his own #91R for the sprint car portion of the Turkey Night Grand Prix,” Brett Roa said. “In addition, he has had some discussions, but he has not confirmed a midget ride to complete his shot at the $50K bonus (for a driver who wins both the sprint car and midget main events at Turkey Night).”
The Sprint Car portion of the Turkey Night Grand Prix is a USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series sanctioned race. In 2016, Roa was champion of that series and with his prowess this year in the USAC/CRA series, would be one of the immediate favorites to win that main event on Thanksgiving night.
The Garden Grove, California racer has had some preliminary talks with some teams regarding the midget portion of the Turkey Night Grand Prix, but nothing has been finalized yet. Any team with interest in contacting Roa with a ride and thus becoming eligible for the $50,000.00 bonus, can contact the 26-year-old star by using the contact information at the top of this release.
A day before the announcement regarding Turkey Night was made, the November issue of “Sprint Car & Midget” magazine came out with Roa on the cover. In addition to the cover, he is featured inside in an article penned by National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Pat Sullivan.
Last Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway, Roa was a key figure in not only the best main event at the track this year, but one of the best in the track’s 22 season history. Starting on the outside of the front row, Roa led the first circuit and battled for the lead early on. However, he dropped back to fourth by lap eight, but that was when the charge began. He moved up to third on lap 11 and two laps later he was in second. On the 16th lap, he was trading the lead back and forth with USAC National Championship Series point leader Justin Grant when a red flag halted the action due to a crash.
For the restart, Roa was second and the next three laps provided some of the best action ever seen on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. Roa and Grant swapped the lead back and forth an amazing seven times! Things took a turn for the worse when Roa again used a slider to take the lead back in turn one and slid to a stop. Forced to restart at the back and with few laps remaining, he drove his bright green sprint car back to finish 14th despite having a flat rear tire at the end.
“It was shame Brody spun there when he was trying to slide me,” gracious winner Grant told the crowd after the race. “It made my job easier (for the win), but I was having a blast racing with him. Hated to see that happen to him.”
Earlier in the night, Roa qualified fifth fastest in the 21-car field and finished second in his heat race.
The likable racer and the crew have this week off from sprint car competition, but they are hard at work getting the cars ready for two nights of action at next week’s 50th Annual Western World Championships at Arizona Speedway. That will be followed up by three straight nights of racing at the 22nd Annual Oval Nationals on November 9th, 10th and 11th at Perris Auto Speedway.
This late news just in! Brody has secured the ride in the #3F Ted Finkenbinder midget for this Saturday’s USAC Western Midget race at the Ventura Raceway. Gates will open at 3:00 P.M. with racing at 5:30.
The team will have its good-looking shirts in the pits at both the Western World and the Oval Nationals. Cost is $20.00. For those who cannot attend, the shirts are available by mail for $20.00 plus $7.00 shipping in the USA (foreign countries contact for shipping costs).
