ROA COMPLETES CALIFORNIA SPRINT WEEK – READY FOR PERRIS THIS SATURDAY

(Buena Park, CA, September 20, 2017) USAC/CRA Championship contender Brody Roa of Garden Grove, California recently finished sixth in the grueling California Sprint Week and now is set to continue his pursuit of the 2017 USAC/CRA Championship this Saturday night, September 23rd, at Perris Auto Speedway.

Coming into Saturday’s race, Roa is second in the championship standings and trails the leader by 73-points.  Thus far in 2017 at Perris Auto Speedway, in six races, Roa has not finished out of the top ten and he has four top five finishes.  His best finish on the Riverside County half-mile clay oval in 2017 was a second place at the “Salute to Indy” on May 27th.  His two worst finishes are a pair seventh place outings.  The first came on June 24th after an early race crash.  The second was on August 26th when the power steering went out.

California Sprint Week Recap

CALISTOGA SPEEDWAY: California Sprint Week kicked off with two shows at the beautiful half-mile located in Northern California’s “Wine Country.”  Heading into the series, Roa, 26, led the USAC/CRA championship standings by 18-points.  The famous track and Roa got along quite well on the opening weekend with the driver timing in fourth and fifth fastest respectively on Saturday and Sunday and finishing fifth in the main event each night.

PETALUMA SPEEDWAY: Round #3 got interesting in a hurry.  After qualifying sixth quick which would have put him on the pole if he finished in the top four in in his heat, Roa got upside down in the heat and ended up against a tree on top of the turn three crashwall.  Fortunately, the veteran racer was not injured and he restarted the heat and finished fifth.  That forced him to start seventh in the main event.  Trouble reared its ugly head again when he caught a piece of someone else’s miscue on the first lap.  A quick thrash by the crew saw him near the back for the restart, but he put on a show and drove the brilliant green car all the way to seventh at the finish.

SILVER DOLLAR SPEEDWAY: After Petaluma, the teams were afforded a couple of days off before heading to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.  Uncharacteristically, Roa qualified 14th out of 33 cars on the famous Northern California track.  He got back to normal when he finished second in his heat race.  The #91R started 13th in the main and had worked its way up to ninth when a red flag came out for another car that caught on fire.  On the red, a fuel fire broke out in the #91R.  Roa scrambled out and the safety crew swiftly put the fire out.  The team pushed back off for the restart, but quickly pulled it back in with a hard to swallow 19th place finish.

OCEAN SPEEDWAY: The night after the fire, things went smoother for Roa and the team.  They timed in third quick in the 18-car field and finished third in the heat race. Starting inside the third row in the fifth position for the 30-lap main, Roa maintained sixth spot for most of the race.  With only seven laps to go, he once again became the victim of someone else’s mess.  As per the rules, even though he did not cause the jumble he did get caught up in it and had to restart with the others involved at the back. In another thrilling display, Roa charged all the way from the back for a hard earned seventh place finish.

KELLER AUTO SPEEDWAY: The final round of California Sprint Week took place in Hanford.  All the teams, including the #91R, had worked hard to make it through the grinding six race in eight-night schedule. Things did not start as well as the team expected when they timed in 14th in the 23-car field.  However, a convincing win after starting on the pole in the heat race gave Roa and crew a lot of optimism going into the 30-lap finale.  The 14th place starting spot meant he would start on the outside of the seventh row in the main.  That allowed Roa to do one of the things he does best!  Go forward in the field and he did just that.  By the time the checkered flew he had advanced all the way to sixth and earned the race “Hard Charger Award” and a sixth place overall in the week-long series standings.

There are seven races left in the 2017 championship season for Roa to chase the leader down and take the top spot back.  The first of those seven is this Saturday night, September 23rd, at Perris Auto Speedway.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. and the first race will be at 7:00.  For fans looking to attend the race, the track is located at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in Perris (92571).  The track phone is (951) 940-0134 and the website is: http://perrisautospeedway.com/

The team will have its good-looking shirts in the pits at Perris.  Cost is $20.00.  For those who cannot attend, the shirts are available by mail for $20.00 plus $7.00 shipping in the USA (foreign countries contact for shipping costs).
