Tommy Hunt appointed as grand marshal for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown at Calistoga Speedway this weekend

Motorsports Ventures PR

Calistoga, CA – September 12, 2017…With another great weekend of racing at the Louie Vermeil Classic in the record books the attention at Calistoga Speedway now shifts to the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown this Friday and Saturday September 15th and 16th.

As anticipation continues to build for the first World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event at the speedway in over two-years Motorsports Ventures is pleased to announce that Calistoga promoter Tommy Hunt will serve as grand marshal during the weekend.

“We are excited to have Tommy Hunt as our grand marshal for the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown,” said Chris Morgan of Motorsports Ventures. “Tommy has done so much for the Calistoga Speedway since becoming involved here so it will be a perfect fit for the weekend. A great racer and a great promoter. It all goes hand in hand so we can’t think of anyone better. We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend in Calistoga.”

Hunt has been promoting events at the Calistoga Speedway over the last 10-years and has also worked as west coast vice president for the United States Auto Club in the past. He also had a solid driving career that saw him compete in both sprint cars and midgets, running a healthy part of his schedule down south with the California Racing Association, where he earned multiple wins at the Ascot Park and one at Chula Vista Raceway. In 1977 he also made the A-main at the prestigious Knoxville Nationals in Iowa.

The Wine Country Outlaw Showdown weekend marks the final appearance of the season in California for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. Last year’s scheduled event early in the season fell victim to rain, which has left fans hungry to catch the “Greatest Show on Dirt” tackle the new and improved half-mile once again.

Last weekend’s Gold Cup Race of Champions saw Paradise, California’s Kyle Hirst pick off opening night, while Bixby, Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart captured Saturday to become a Gold Cup champ for the first time. The most recent World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event at Calistoga Speedway was held in April of 2015. Wins that weekend were claimed by Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz and Grass Valley, California’s Brad Sweet.

The IMCA All Star Modified Tour will also be a part of this weekend and will showcase the top modified drivers from around Northern California.

The town of Calistoga offers more than simply just racing with world class dining and tourist shops just a short walk downtown. Extended camping options are also available during the weekend and can be reserved at (707) 942-5221.

The main gate for spectators will open at 4pm each day, with will call & the ticket window opening at 2pm both days. The pit gate will also open at 2pm. Two-night weekend tickets and single night tickets are available by visiting https://dirtcar.ticketforce.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=231

The Calistoga Speedway is located on the scenic Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga, California at 1435 North Oak Street and has been in existence since 1937. For more information on the half-mile log onto http://www.calistogaspeedway.org
