Just curious as to where everyone might be running this year as it will be 2 great shows drawing from the same general area.  I know that a handful will go out to Port Royal for the $50,000 to win show but i feel that these two should draw generally well.

I'm assuming that seitz will get the regular nosa drivers while the richert will get the traveling IRA drivers.  but will either show get over 30 cars?

The Seitz Memorial does not have sprints during their big Sat night show. However the sprints do run Thurs and Fri night.  So that opens up the Richert Memorial for the NOSA sprints. I know Dobmeier will be at Cedar Lake on Sat, not sure about others.

actually the thursday show for the sprints got dropped and replaced with a sprint show on saturday, hence why it's interesting to see who goes where or if it even makes a difference at all

Its a flip-the-coin for me. Not sure.  Richert remember, was the last sprint driver to put on a full roll cage.  Not sure of the year but the first full cage was used in 1962, don't know by who.  Loved Richert's comment about roll cages, "I just wish these young kids didn't think you had to use them".

The Jerry Richert Memorial is a n brainer for me.  Jerry drove a Supermodfied my uncle and cousins wrenched in the early 60s and I live in Forest Lake and know the family.  CLS is 40 minutes from the end of the driveway.  The Seitz Late Model show will attract all the heavy hitters from my area, Kaanta, Doar, etc.  If you're going for Late models RCS will be the place to go but Sprints will be the local guys.  CLS usually gets some Knoxville, NOSA, and Sioux Falls along with the best of IRA and a surprise or two.  I think CLS is the place for Sprints and I see 30 as a realistic number.

5K to win and $500 to start at Cedar Lake for the 410 cars. Don't forget that the UMSS 360 and traditional sprint cars will be running for enhanced $$$ as well. A sprint car triple header vs. stock cars and one class of sprints is a no-brainer for 99% of us on this message board.

Ah, that is news to me. Well, IMO, that's just a dumb move for RCS to do that. That takes away a chance at an extra night of racing for the 410 guys in that area - especially since the Richert Memorial is a special event. So I guess to answer your original question - my guess is NO ONE from Grand Forks will be coming to Cedar Lake as a result of that change. The only guy that may show up is Dobmeier, but not sure if he will feel that a 10 hour tow there and back is worth a chance at $5k.

Grand Forks is quite a haul for anyone living down by the Cities.  I don't chase them that far anymore.  wink

Tatnell and Whitney at Cedar Lake? either way, expect it to mostly be the IRA, albeit a slimmer group this time around as I know more than a few are not making the trip North. Balog wins, so it just depends how far you want to drive to see who battles for second on back.

Is 32 miles too far to drive to see who takes second on back or should I drive 300 miles to Grand Forks to watch a Late Model race?  Jeez man, this will only be my second night of Sprint Car racing this season.  Let's not make it too complicated.  I go to honor the memory of JR.  If a race happens to break out it's a bonus.  wink

I would drive the 32 miles, allot of times 2nd on back makes for some pretty decent racing! I have hit as many IRA races as I could this summer, as I see allot of trouble on the horizon for that group. The intoduction of the wingless division was a smart move in order to catch some of the fallout. I unfortunately cant make the trip this weekend, but hoping to be back at Beaver Dam. Have fun to all who attend!

here's how it plays out for me, the gf lives in bismarck and i'm from duluth so grand forks is literally in the middle for us.  I also happen to be a fan of late models and have a few people i know racing the seitz this year too. So i am choosing the seitz for the year even though i love watching the JRM.  I have had the pleasure to actually sit by the tatnell family at one of the races at cedar lake and they are absolutely amazing people.  I wish i could make it back to watch but i will have to be watchign online for updates.

Driver wise idk how it will all shake out this year but i think each field should have their respective drivers.  The JRM will get the ira guys like balog, henderson, thiell, reinke, schultz, neitzel, and the rest while probably getting a handful of travelers like whitney, tatnell, heskin, and maybe both of the phillips. What will help them is that the show is $5,000 to win and $500 to start.  This might get a few more guys to come, it might not as I'm not sure how the payback through the field looks.  What's going to hurt the car count is the fact that a handful of potential drivers such as Madsen and Brown will be going to Port Royal.  I wouldn't be surprised to see 24-28 cars however I would be surprised to see over 30 and under 20.

Seitz will get their nosa group with the headliners being pierce, kennedy, dobbmeier, the macks, ranten, and nyygard. From past years it doesn't appear that they get too many travelers for this race but still garner upwards of the high twenties for sprints.  With the show being pushed to friday-saturday this year it will be interesting to see if they get a few more travelers.  It would help if they could somehow get the Western ND sprint group to come race this event but I doubt that they will get much support from them.  Lee Groz will be hoping in the 20a ride for Jordan Adams for the weekend which isn't hurting the car count as his team has called it a year.  By the way, any idea who will be in the 82 car this weekend? I'm hoping it's zomer as it will prevent a local from ditching their ride for the show.

I will say that I find it odd that the McCarls aren't racing at either and are taking the weekend off.  It would be fun to see any of them at either show.  Either way, there hasn't been a lot of talk about travelers coming to either of these shows and I was just curious/excited to hear if anyone had some news.

Not to mention that on Sat night Buffalo Wild Wings is sponsoring the Back Row Challenge at RCS, giving $8200 to a driver that starts at the back of the A and wins.  Dobmeier already noted in his press release that he will be taking the challenge. So he will put on one hell of a show starting in the back, much like he did last month there when he had to start 21st against the WoO and drove to 6th.

I got to know Mike Nutzmann pretty well when I was writing for the Racing Connection.  He was telling me one time that he had gotten to know Seitz pretty well and had been traveling up there for a few years although he had cut way back on his racing.  Aside from Mike I suspect a few other local Late Model drivers will be heading up to Grand Forks.  It's pretty hard to spend as much time as I used to at Cedar Lake and not become a Late Model fan.  I have made about a dozen of the USA Nationals and came pretty close to running out there for the finale but wasn't able to make it.

I'm not one to brag up one track over another.  RCS has a great reputation and is referred to as best dirt track and I have only been up there one time for a Dollansky WoO win and can't argue the point, it's a great track.  CLS holds it's own as well and this is an opportunity to see an all Sprint show with 410's, 360's and non-wing so it's going to be a great night of racing.  The weather looks perfect for both tracks so weather won't be a factor holding back any fans or competitors for traveling.

It's too bad that some of the top racers from middle America will be heading east but it's another huge show so I can understand that.  I'm not sure why McCarl would pass up on a race he has won twice but it's his racing team so he makes the schedule.  Mastells have helped the McCarls out and their shop is a few miles down the road from me so I kind of thought we might see them here this weekend.

Bottom line like I said in an earlier reply, I go to this race to honor the memory of a boyhood hero and give a tip of the hat to the Richert family.  If a good race happens to break out (which it usually is) it's a bonus.  Everyone enjoy the weekend whatever your destination happens to be.  wink
