I found this interesting piece of dirt track history on YouTube. I've read about Formula Libre races before, but didn't know anything was ever done like that on a dirt track.

Was there that day. If memory serves correctly, the track was absolutely horrible; dried off slick about like an ice skating rink. Also, at the time I don't think anybody thought much about it but it probably wasn't the safest thing to do, but then again if you look at any of those cars (sprints, modifieds, or late models) from earlier years and compare them to today's mounts, strapping your ass into one of them wasn't exactly the safest thing in the world to do! Lol
