Good for Joey.....that can be a good ride. Maybe it will develop into something. I hope he does well. I've thought for quite a while that the All Stars would be a better fit for him simply because of the less travel.

He needs 1 more win to have 100 WoO wins, not total wins (he already has way more than 100 total wins). Tonight's race was to be an All star race.

I hope folks sit back and appreciate Saldana's records when all is set and done.
He has 99 WoO wins, 71 All Star wins, a few King's ROyals, and has come close at Knoxville. And judging by recent history, he's got another 8-10 years of being pretty competitive. Here's to him finding a Stevie Smith-style renaissance somewhere soon.

If Joey stays with Allstars, an excellent addition to a fun series....

I would rate Joey Saldana in the top 10 drivers.Good on equiptment and a really nice guy.Not as flambouyant as some but tells it like it is and has been able to have a long carreer. The traveling that is required away from family can be hard and without sponsers and merchandise sales not as glamourous as it appears.

Right the home page of his website says 110 WoO wins, my question is, which is the correct number?

Most likely includes 11 prelim wins that weren't counted at the time. For example his 1 Grove win in 2002 was a prelim show that didn't "Count". Kinser has something like 7-800 wins if you include prelim races.

Evidently, Joey counts it. At any rate, good luck to him tonight.

I will go out on a limb and say Joey shows the difference between ASCOC speed and WoO speed parking her on the front stretch!

Good call. For those even questioning how much of a difference it is between the series, the driver running 8th in outlaw points at the time of his getting fired just dominated the All Stars in his first night with a new car.

So he won at Wayne County?

The ASCOC top end quality is very lacking this year. Chad Kemenah is the only one with that kind of speed consistently, while Smith, Michael and the Caleb's are fast and on certain nights at that level but not consistently. Losing Dale,Sheldon, Kraig Kinser, and Tim Shaffer off the full time tour really hurt the top end quality (lost Holtgraver and Cap Henry too)which was fantastic last year. Still a great show to see, hoping Joey catches an ASCOC ride to make it even better.

The 71 is a good car. So before the inevitable All Star bashing begins anew, that needs to be mentioned. It's not like Saldana hopped in a piece of junk.

To go off of this, it's worth noting that when the all stars are racing in Ohio there are more than just the 16 full timers. Drivers like Cole Duncan, the Jacobs family, and even Danny Mumaw are tough to beat at a place like Wayne County. Not the Outlaws but still not easy

Joey was surgical last night. Hung around in 3rd for awhile...and it looked like Kemenah was going to race away after getting past Dean Jacobs...but those yellows bunched them up. Not sure they ever got into lapped traffic. On the lap 15 restart, Joey got around Chad and that was it. It's important to note that the 71 was not a boat anchor in the feature, but was fastest at the end of the race on a tricky surface.
It would be great to see Joey run the All Stars again. In fact, in his victory lane interview, he seemed to indicate that was a possibilty....one of the best victory lane interviews I have heard in a long time. Very emotional and he talked about racing for fun again and how much he enjoyed racing with the All Stars and how important a team effort is to win a race. The interview was posted on the Wayne County Speedway facebook page. It's a must see for sprint car fans. Very enlightening what he had to say.
Maybe Tony can cobble together some more drivers for the series for next year. Look who's hanging out there currently....
Tim Shaffer, Dale Blaney, Jac Haudenschild, Joey Saldana, Cole Duncan, Cap Henry, Danny Holtgraver, Randy Hannigan, Cale Conley, Lee Jacobs, PPM...add those guys to Chad Kemenah, Ryan Smith, Cale Armstrong, Caleb Helms...sprinkle in Spithaler and Cale Thomas and Max Stambaugh.....that's 18 guys who can bring it on any evening.....
That's 6 former WoO drivers, one Nationals winner, two or three Nationals podium finishers, at least two Nationals A main top 10 finishers, not too shabby.
Combine this with a few less trips to Wisconsin....more money.....$7,500 to win.....charge a bit more for a ticket....with less support classes...and that's a recipe for a dynamite season.

Absolutely, and I agree with Nick 14 as well. Bump the purse up, stay more in Ohio and Indiana. I always enjoy an All Star show whenever I can see them. Saldana is/would be a great addition, and I'd bet he'd say last night at Wayne County was probably the most fun he's had racing sprint cars all season. I hope he stays with the series.
