When did they pave this place?  Dry slick in hot laps, saw some nice red dust but not any red dirt at all, the worst of all-time maybe?

Supposed to be new red clay this year and if I remember correctly they widened the track a bit (maybe, can't remember correctly). I think they wanted a similar clay to Port Royal. Lernerville also has a similar red clay.

You remember what the surface was like the last couple years? Rocks and dust. Plenty of both.

It's new clay and it's good stuff. They are struggling with the prep for it though. I was at the Lucas Oil Late Model race they had in April and the track was fast as heck, setting track records with times that would've been one of the top qualifiers tonight. However the track rutted up bad and tore equipment up. The only way they've been keeping it smooth is by having it dry slick. Tonight was only the 5th night on it I believe.

Regardless it ended up being a fantastic A-Main which is all that really matters

The track was bad for qualifying but once they rewatered it it was perfect dry slick with very little dust from the heats on. I can't complain I prefer to watch slick tracks and it was a great race because of it. Didn't look dusty at all from what I can see but I was watching from Dayton on PPV.

Oh the new clay is going to be prime, they just have to figure out how to work with it.  It'll take time, but they'll get it.  Remember they also have very few Sprint races anymore.  Sounds like little dust and slick (not rubbered down) last night, which is fine (again anyone remember how dusty and rocky it was the last few years).  Heck Larson and Macedo passed some cars to get up front.

I did not have a single problem with the track last night. A slick track is a great equalizer. Well until your left rear seals up and you drop 3 spots after the caution.

We watched from the work area all night and I did not get blasted with rocks like Wayne County and did not need glasses for dust.

I am not a big fan of sprint cars crawling around a race track, maybe you are.  There generally isn't dust on a paved track or an ice hockey rink track either, that's what I witnessed.  The two most important words in sprint car racing are TRACK PREP.....

If this was all new like others have mentioned here then I hope they get it better, I also understand the track man from Port Royal was trying to help them last night also, here's hoping they figure it out....

I saw the highlights of the A main, looked like a good dry slick multiple groove track.

I thought the racing last night was fantastic.  I would MUCH rather watch that kind of race than a race where its single file around the bottom lane and a half, turning lap times 2-3 seconds faster.  Not sure what more a fan couldve wanted in a track than what they got last night.  3 lanes of racing and sliders all night.

Some people will always complain Blake! I enjoyed it as did the majority of people who have commented! Thanks for the all stars putting on a great show!

My comments were made before the show started, Dave and Dale are Hall of Fame Drivers and Humans.

If you thought last nights racing was fantastic you simply haven't seen enough shows, period.  The feature had sliders where the top 3 lapped most of the much slower cars, as for 3 groves, they didn't exist, the middle was slowest and the top and bottom just slow with nothing to grip, lapped cars ran the middle.  It may not have been as bad as the announcer on the PPV making such a big deal over and over that Kyle was going to get a $500 bonus if he won, like Kyle cares about that making millions of dollars already this year....

PS I have covered dozens of All-Star Speedweek shows and think it's the best of all speedweeks by far and will watch the PPV again this evening where I doubt I'll see a similar track....

So you started a thread complaining about the track before the racing began?

And we know things were better in 1997 or whenever you went to a lot of races. Let's all move on.

I've seen a lot more great races on a slow dry-slick than I have on a heavy wet fast track. The lap times may be impressive but heavy tracks usually mean a freight train around the cushion.

Yes, I was complaining about the TRACK, not the racing.  I have spoken little about the racing but overall it didn't warrant much conversation to be honest.  Tonights race at Waynesfield is a different story, I hope you big fans of dry slick are paying attention to what a sprint car track can produce when given the opportunity....

PS Who said anything about a heavy wet fast track, not me....after way more than a thousand sprint car shows I know what I want and what produces the best racing....
