MSCS SPRINTS TO BE IN ACTION AT MONTPELIER MOTOR SPEEDWAY

      Haubstadt, IN - May 02, 2017 -  The 410 non-wing sprint cars
sanctioned by the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be
racing at the Montpelier Motor Speedway this Saturday.  The May 6th
date offers race fans a great opportunity to enjoy an early season
special event at a time when action picks up all across Indiana.
The Month of May is always an exciting one for open wheel racing in
Hoosierland!

This MSCS special event will be topped off with a 25 lap feature
paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start. This will be the third
consecutive year that MSCS will be appearing at the quarter mile
speedway.  The MSCS format provides for 20 cars to start the feature.
One provisional spot is also available to eligible drivers.  Those
not transferring to the feature receive $100 tow money.

Hot laps and group qualifying will begin at 5 P.M.  Drivers will need
to report for registration and the pill draw as early as possible.
The pit gate opens at 3 o‘clock.  Group qualifying will set the
line-ups for the heat races.  2016 MSCS Rookie of the Year Tyler
Hewitt, from nearby Marion, IN, holds the current one lap overall
qualifying record with a lap turned at 14.350 seconds.

MSCS events always provide an interesting mix of drivers following the
series with those that drop in virtually unannounced.  Drivers electing
to run with the series on a temporary permit are reminded that MSCS has
a 4 corner Hoosier Tire rule that must be adhered to.  The spec right
rear is a Hoosier 105/16.0-15 Medium.  Transponders will be assigned to
be mounted on cars for scoring purposes.

So far in 2017 MSCS has completed two events and lost one to rainfall.
Thomas Meseraull and Chris Windom have posted early season wins at
Putnamville and Haubstadt.  Three time champion Brady Short has been
the most consistent wheelsman with two top five feature finishes.

Shane Cottle won last year’s MSCS feature event at Montpelier
Speedway.  He also won the 2015 MSCS feature event at Montpelier.  He
has an opportunity to make it three in a row!  Cottle started 4th last
year and 6th the year before in the Paul Hazen Sprinter.

Jarett Andretti, of Indianapolis, currently leads the MSCS Points
Standings.  He holds a narrow 2 points lead over Brady Short and
Carson Short.  Max McGhee and Dakota Jackson are formidable
challengers and next in the standings.  Kyle Cummins is 6th.  The
former series champion leads Brandon Morin, Donny Brackett, and rookie
Tyler Rust, with Brandon Mattox 10th.  The order could change at any
time during the preliminaries or feature.

Montpelier Motor Speedway is a quarter mile slightly banked clay oval
which is located in town just south of Indiana State Route 18 on South
Jefferson.  Remember that racing at Montpelier begins early.  The
events there are organized to move along at a quick clip.  Heat races
begins at 6:30 P.M. Eastern Time.  Modifieds, Super Streets, and
Thunder Cars will also race during the program.
