WEIR TOPS CRA RUN - MILLER WINS WAGSDASH

Sunday, 07 October 2007

Ventura, Calif....Scotty Weir of Marion, Ind., grabbed his third Lucas Oil USAC/CRA sprint Car main event win of the season Saturday at Ventura Raceway. Driving the Glen Crossno / ITI Performance No. 38 Bullet, Weir started the 30-lap race in the eighth position before taking the lead four laps from the finish.

Fresh off his first feature win of the season one week ago, Rip Williams, Yorba Linda, Calif., drove Sharon Jory's AMA Plastics No. 3 Stinger to a second-place finish. Temecula, California's Mike Spencer started the race in the third row alongside of Williams before taking the lead at the midway point of the event. Spencer and his Ron Chaffin / Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply No. 50 Maxim would eventually finish third.

Local favorite Troy Rutherford, Ojai, Calif., drove his Frank's Rooter & Plumbing No. 11R Stealth to a fourth-place finish. Damion Gardner, Concord, Calif., started on the pole and led the first 15-laps before placing fifth in Jason Leffler's Pace Electronics No. 71 DRC.

Blake Miller, Yorba Linda, Calif., made good use of his provisional starting spot. Starting in the 21st position, Miller won "Hard Charger" honors with his eighth-place run. Following the USAC/CRA feature race, Miller, and his car owner Jeff Gardner, took home an additional $2,500 after they won the 17th Annual Wagsdash, which was run in tribute to Glenn Howard.

Does anyone think that maybe USAC should reconsider their format out there, 19th quick on the pole at Ventura? I know a few weeks back when I was in Tucson, I think it was 16th quick was on the pole, and I am pretty sure this has been happening all year long... With inverting 8 cars in the heats, and some pretty fast and narrow heats, it doesnt really pay to qualify good, maybe the art of sandbagging will come back around : )

Casey, from A fans point of view I have to disagree.I can also see the driver and owners point of view but as a fan I love the format it really makes the heats important and most of the time the cream will rise to the top.the last 2 races have been unusual most of the time the Pole sitter is from the top 10 qualifiers. My hope is that USUC will change some things out here on the left coast but not the race format.

hope to cya at the Ovals

Maybe the USAC officials wre afraid to get into an arguement with Damion.....Something about a flying helmet.
