If sold, it was damned near given away compared to what it cost Chuck Brennan, that's the only way it is going to be sold.  A guy can damned near lease 50% of the dirt tracks in the U.S. for  a pittance compared to what has been put into them by previous owners.   I wonder what kind of year they had in Fargo last year with the new ownership as I see they have a WoO date.  Don't know how I missed that when looking at the schedule.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

Yeah, we've been holding our breath waiting for an "anytime" announcement now for a good while...

Whatever. The announcement will probably be the proposed 2019 schedule.

I did hear the city of Brandon told Chuck they were expecting some type of payment if there was no races this year because they relied on tax revenue from the track. That's what prompted the 2017 schedule.

Probably not. I don't think that's how sales tax works. What's more likely is that the 2017 mini-schedule was prompted by the need to keep the name out there in order to try and find a buyer. Just having shake'n'bake start a new " BADLANDS SPEEDWAY SOLD????" rumor every other week wasn't getting the job done.

OK, lets have a pool: Which happens first... Trump releases tax returns or Badlands gets sold?

Could this be a tie at NEVER?

Realistically, when the laws of supply and demand take over, a buyer will be willing to pay a price that the seller is willing to sell for and the speedway will be sold. In the meantime, God's gift to sprintcar racing and pawnshops will need to do anything to hype things up, in order to interest potential buyers. Think of those birds, where the male of the species puffs up his chests, flaunts his tail feathers and does a little dance to try to attract the babes.

The tax returns- when pigs fly.

So is Brandon SD ran by the Mafia ?   The only way this could happen is if he took some kind of tax break/incentive from the City.

I think the partial schedule was brought on because of the re-zoning threat. As long as the track is in business, that threat becomes non existant because of being grandfathered in. Just my thought.....

I dunno. I don't see any kind of a zoning threat. And if there was one, the local newspaper would be all over that. I think I recall that you have been there before? If not, I'll suggest that this piece of property will never be put to a higher use. The grandstands sit on a steep hill abutting the highway. The racetrack and the rest of the property sit in a floodplain next to the creek. If it were not a racetrack, it would make a decent alfalfa field. That's about it for options unless you wanted to graze cattle there.

I saw it publisehd that a local homeowner seized the opportunity of the track not running to try to get a noise ordinance passed by the city and that was on mutiple platforms in the Sioux Falls area (print, web, radio).  I think that is hte zoning threat he was alluding to.

You are partly right, there was a complaint about  noise filed this offseason.

However, it was not filed to the City of Brandon as the track is not in city limits.  The homeowner asked Minnehaha County commissioners to place restrictions on the track's hours and noise levels.

The ask puts the county commission in an interesting place.

If it puts noise restrictions on a speedway, could similar restrictions be asked to be placed on farms? Obviously, farm equipment can also produce noise and farms don't run on a 9-5 schedule.

Also, similar restructions could then be placed on the local fairgrounds, which is county property and could have implications for events there such as concerts and the fair itself.

As a resident of Brandon, I can tell you that the vast majority of the town supports the speedway and has no problem with it.  Yes, you can hear the rumble of the cars, but because of the shape of the hill, much of the noise is directed to the east and south which is away from town. The homeowner who went to the county commission lives south of the speedway.

All that said, I still believe it is always in the best interest of the speedway for management to do its best to run shows in an efficient manner, especially on weeknights or Sundays. I think the Badlands managment did a sufficient job of that last year, with the exception of a few early-season shows that did run late when they were still working the bugs out, so to speak.

Thanks for the clarification....that is what I was refering to but the gray matter confused it with re-zoning.

Not that it makes any difference any more, but here in Des Moines the City had a 10:30PM Noise Ordinance on the weekly races at the Iowa State Fair Grounds - BUT DURING the Iowa State Fair the Ordinance was not in effect. If they build the new track they've promised it'll be interesting because it's going to be alittle closer to a residential area (but I'm not holding My breath on a new track).

Me neither on that one.  Think they have $5 mil laying around to build a new one?

If they do have $5 millon laying around, I'm sure they'll find something else to spend it on.

I haven't looked or seen any thing but from driving by the fairgrounds it wouldn't surprize Me if the don't do the tractor pulls - the front straight still looks pretty much intact, and slater likes the tractor pulls because they do fill the grandstand.
