Ambitious 18 Race 2017 Slate for Sprint Series of Oklahoma!

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – January 21, 2017 - The sophomore season for the Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car Series boasts an ambitious eighteen race schedule that will see eight different tracks in three states host at least one SSO event for the 2017 season, series officials officially announced Saturday afternoon.

The season will kick off on Saturday night, March 25, in the first of six appearances at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore. Other dates include Friday night events on April 21; May 19; June 23; August 18 and is slated to close out 2017 at the track on Saturday night, September 15.

Last year saw Southern Oklahoma Speedway host four SSO events where John Carney II, Michelle Melton, Chad Wilson and Marcus Thomas pick up victories.

Longdale Speedway (Oklahoma) will once again host an SSO event and again will be joined by the Kansas-based United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) on Saturday night, April 1. Kansas veteran Luke Cranston took home last year’s victory atop the big Northwest Oklahoma track.

Wichita Speedway (formally Red River Speedway) in Wichita Falls, Texas will play host to two series events, the first slated for Friday night, April 28, and race number four on the season with the second event scheduled for Friday night, July 28. Carney (2) and Brandon Long scored SSO victories in 2016. The track is under new ownership this year and will be promoted by former sprint car driver Kathryne Minter.

Another track that has undergone a name and ownership change over the off season is Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Oklahoma. Formally known as Brill Motor Speedway and which hosted two 2016 events, once again will see two appearances from the SSO. Those dates are Friday night encounters; May 5 and September 8. Jake Martens and defending series and IMCA national sprint car champion Andy Shouse took home those victories at a track now owned and operated by midget and sprint car racer Cody Brewer.

Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada will once again host two Saturday night events and are slated for June 24 and August 5. Joe Wood, Jr. and Austin Mundie scored victories last year at the George Welch owned facility.

Three tracks will host the SSO for their first time in 2017 with the first coming at Elk City Speedway (Oklahoma) on Saturday night, May 13, and Saturday night, July 22. The tour will make one appearance at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas in an event co-sanctioned with URSS as part of the tracks “Sprint Car Mania” on Memorial weekend Sunday night, May 28. A much-anticipated appearance at the red-clay oval of Lawton Speedway is set for Saturday night, August 19.
