Does anyone have any pictures of what exactly is legal and what is not with ASCS heads?  Every site has the same rules, but you see all sorts of different heads claiming to be ASCS legal that are not spec heads.  You see spec heads claiming "updates" and max porting among other descriptions.  Does anyone really know what is ok and what is not?  Or have a good suggestion who to ask for pictures of what is ok and what is not?  I have emailed Matt, so I'm looking for non-ASCS suggestions.

Good luck on this.  The rule book is contradictory in itself.  ASCS likely won't tell you exactly what is legal or not.  I know Ron's does quite a bit of work on them.  The sets I've seen are a lot different than our original set that came straight from Brodix back in the day.  One big thing that was taken out of the rule book is the size limit of the intake ports.  It used to be written in there.  It's not now.  That gives them a lot of flexibility in what is legal or not now.  It's kind of sad.  But when they let the RY Ford into the mix they had to let the Chev open up more to keep up.  I'm not sure what it would take to be deemed illegal now.  I suppose taking the ASCS logo completely out might do it.  But as long as it's stlll visible to some degree it seems you're probably ok.

We were told that a felpro 1206 intake gasket would be the max. you could port intake but I just saw what was said to be legal porting and it took a 1207 gasket.  I do not know for sure and it has become a big joke as to what is legal.  I guess if you mark ports ascs with a elmarko they are legal.

The new Chevy ASCS head rules are pretty simple, like they should be.  The same valve angle rule is still in place, and they have a go/no-go guage that checks the size of the intake opening at the pushrod opening (you can't touch this area with a grinder or it will be too big; you can only polish this area).  As long as it passes this you are good to go. This has simplified teching for ASCS on the national and regional level and created consistent teching accross the board.  It has removed all the "I think this is illegal, or in my opinion it is illegal" out of the equation. There was a lot of grey area with the old rules, and there was already a ton of cheating going on.  In my opinion I really like the new head rules.  It costs no more to port the heads now then it did before (new). If you are upgrading old heads obviously you will spend more money.  The heads are still restricted with the pushrod opening being restricted, and there's no cheating around that rule.  Accross the board we have seen an average 15hp gain upgrading to the new rules.  Some more, some less...  Hope this helps!
