I heard he was in a bad crash in California last night. Last I heard he possibly had a broken neck but had movement in all his extremities.  Anyone have any updates..?

Looks like he had surgery for a broken neck. Best wishes for a quick recovery.

From Robert  Ballou Motorsports on Facebook.

Quick update for all friends and fans:
As stated earlier Robert does have a couple fractures in his neck which require surgery. All extremities are moving with no problems and he's still quite the chatter box early this morning 9/4/16. As of right now he has been transported to Stanford Hospital to meet with a surgeon to prepare for surgery. We will continue to keep everyone updated as we know more! Thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers as it is much appreciated by all.

The report is he ran into turn one and two, biked big time and flipped to the top of the fence. And came straight down on the cage.

My thoughts and well wishes for quick and full recovery, the madman.

As of now he's not getting surgery,  Fractures apear to be stable for healing with a new neck brace he got and with no complications he was scheduled for release today.

Nothing wrong with there being some sort of fundraising. I do know USAC's Insurance is second to none.  At least it was back when a friend got hurt real bad,  Covered everything but the helicopter ride and even paid him half his income while he was off work.

USAC: Ballou Will Not Undergo Surgery For Neck Fracture Sustained In Calistoga Crash

STANFORD, Calif. – Defending USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series champion Robert Ballou will not undergo surgery for his broken neck, sustained in a non-wing sprint car flip during the Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga Speedway, his team announced on Tuesday.

Doctors at the Stanford Medical Center, where Ballou is being treated, determined that the fracture is stable on its own after x-rays and will heal on its own without the need for surgery. The team previously reported in the early hours of Monday morning that Ballou also sustained a thoracic (back) fracture in the crash that was also stable and would not require any surgery.

Ballou is able to move all of his extremities and has been talking regularly with the medical staff at Stanford, according to prior releases from his official Facebook page.

He is anticipated to be released from the hospital soon in order to return home and continue recovering there.

Prior to the incident on Saturday, which occurred under AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series sanction, Ballou had set quick time to kick off the program at 19.385 seconds and was racing for the lead in the feature with Damion Gardner and eventual winner Ryan Bernal.

Ballou also still ranks second in this year’s USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series standings, behind only Brady Bacon and the No. 69 Hoffman Auto Racing team, with four wins to his credit this year — most recently at Lincoln Park Speedway on July 1.

That standing will likely decrease, however, as Ballou will spend his recovery period out from behind the wheel of his No. 1 MPHG Promotions/Blakesley Auto sprint car.

No timetable has been given for his return to competition.

Thank you everyone for your patience! But today we bring excellent news!!

Yesterday they brought in a new brace to keep the neck fractures stabilized better and wanted to complete more x-rays to see if anything moved. He was able to get out of bed, walk and sit up with pain but tolerable. We received update that the x-rays were stable and Robert will continue without surgery at this time!

Doctors rounded this AM said once again all was stable and the plan is to clear him to go home at this time as long as the day goes well and no hiccups come about. Obviously a long recovery period but we love good news! Again thank you for all the messages, thoughts and prayers! The racing family and community has been amazing as always!

Great news for sure. Get well soon Robert. You will definitely be missed at the Four Crown. Hopefully you can get out some maybe and we might be able to see you there for a little bit.
