Archie Simpson, 1945-2016 Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 12:00 am Archie L. Simpson, 70, of Columbia passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, in Salina, Kan. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, also at the funeral home. Simpson He was born Aug. 22, 1945, in Belleview, Ill., son of George and Dorothy (Barnes) Simpson, who preceded him in death. He married the love of his life, Carol Jeane Crowdus, on June 23, 1977. When Arch and Carol met, they combined their families, and most would say they were like the “Brady Bunch.” Arch would correct them and say, “No, we are the Beverly Hillbillies.” His family meant everything to him, and he could be no more proud than when he watched his grandchildren race, play baseball and basketball or dance. After moving from Illinois, he was employed by Kelly Pontiac and was made service manager of Kelly Datsun Volvo. He went into business for himself as an auto technician and then his successful pride and joy, Simpson Import Center. He was founder and president of Winged Outlaw Warriors established in 1999 and owner and partner of JLA (Jerry, Larry and Arch) sprint car and of several other sprint cars. His love for this sport was shared by his family and friends all across the United States. It truly was his passion and he was most happy on the dirt track. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; sons, David Simpson and Bryan Allison and wife Tracy; daughters, Karla Bleything and husband Travis, Krissy Wyatte and Amie Greening, all of Columbia; sisters, Verna Strowmatt and Carol Ann Bloodworth, both of Illinois; and grandchildren, Mallory, Morgann, Brittney, Tyler, Hannah, Gavin, Adilynn, Rylee and Quyncie. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ida Davis; and brothers, Tommy and Harvey Simpson. “Racers are lucky enough to have two families. One they are born into and the other they gain at the track.” Memorials are suggested to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum in memory of Archie Simpson, No. 1 Sprint Capital Place, Knoxville, Iowa, 50138. Online condolences may be left for the family at memorialfuneralhomeandcemetery.com
