Was thinking about Schatz th morning and was wondering when the last time was that he got upside down or tore up a race car. seems like it has been several years. Incredible.

I remember at Tulare in 2015 Carson Macedo landed on Schatz and he encountered heavy damage but ended up driving the bent car back up to finish 8th-ish after tagging the tail. I also remember a HARD flip destroyed his car in hot laps at Castrol in 2013 yet he still won that night after switching to the backup car. (Think a front torsion arm came off or something in front end broke). Johnny will remember better but there were a couple of broken front ends along the way too in 2013

To me this is one of the most amazing things about Schatz. Even during Steve's heyday he tore up some stuff. But Donnie never does. His ability to drive on the edge while not going over and to avoid other's problems is simply amazing. He makes it look way too easy. How many times has he been racing hard with someone and that someone ends up in the fence or just overdrives a bit and misses their line or the cushion and Donnie drives away. His slip up in the cushion at Lernerville to allow Gravel back by was almost shocking. Even a slight slip up like that just never happens with him. Most guys will lose ground now and then trying something. But Donnie almost never does. The guy is one of the best ever right now and will be in the conversation of "best ever" before he's done. I'm a big Steve fan but Donnie is right there.

I agree, it is amazing just how good and methodical he is and how he just doesn't tear equipment up. I remember watching him and Dale Blaney take probably one of the most wild rides they ever took at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway years ago.

This is also a testament to how clean of a racer Donny is. If you drive dirty or overly aggressive, you will bust shit up sometimes. Dirty drivers aren't going to go over 2 years without a DNF or be the subject of a thread wondering when the last time was that he got upside down. The man is phenomenal. Enjoy it now because we're witnessing greatness right before our eyes.

I believe it was 2014 at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton that a torsion stop came off in hotlaps and he hit the wall and trashed the car coming off of turn 4. They pulled down the backup car and won that night too.

Racing is a process . DS understands that and is very patient.

Last time Schatz got upside down in a race was 2013 Cedar Lake, just bent up top wing was able to make repairs. Last serious crash he had was in hot laps in Edmonton 2013, same thing that happend to Leffler happened but he was lucky enough to walk away pull out a backup car and win. There is a youtube video of his hotlap crash.
