After long discussions with Midwest 360 Speedweeks Series Director Chuck Zitterich, we have decided it is in the best interest of all involved to cancel tomorrow nights event do the extreme heat.
"You really have to think about the drivers out there. These guys will race whenever, whatever, in any type of conditions. It is up to us to make sure they have a safe environment," stated Zitterich. "When the temperatures are that hot, it is at least 130 plus degrees in the cockpits of these cars. Drivers are in full fire suites, helmets, & gloves for extended periods of time."
Track Promoter Justin Holzapfel also voiced his concerns stating, "Chuck and I are not only looking out for the drivers, crew members, and fans, but also my track prep guys that would be out in the heat from sun up until after the races. These guys will be in tractors, water trucks, etc with no air conditioning for 12 plus hours. It just isn't safe for anybody involved."
There will be no make up date as this was to be part of a 4 night series. Holzapfel and Zitterich will continue on trying to build up dirt track racing in the area and hope to come together for another possible date next season.
"Tod Quiring, Chuck Zitterich, Doug Johnson, and the entire staff at Jackson Motorplex are a great group of people to work with. They really have the best interest of the sport in mind and I hope to continue our great working relationship with them and both the Redwood Speedway and Nobles County Speedway," said Holzapfel.
Racing action resumes this Sunday night at the Redwood Speedway with our normal Sunday Night Program. See you at the track!
