I will go out on a limb now.  Gravel wins 15+ races next year and the WOO championship.  He has transitioned from a good, pesky driver to a very serious threat at every track.  I am very impressed.  Didnt get it 12 months ago, but holy crap has he got it locked in!!

I saw the WoO show at Rockford Speedway.  Definitely a rough track and not normally what the guys run on, but there were several guys that were elbows up - Schatz and Gravel.  I thought they put on a show.  Not that they tiptoed around the track, but many other cars were in survival mode (can't say I blame them).  Schatz and Gravel were pedal down just on the edge of losing it.  They looked hungrier than everyone else.

I don't know if it will happen next year but he WILL be a champion in the future, possibly the near future. There's no question about it, he is the best young up and coming driver in sprint car racing right now. I think Schuchart could be just as good but right now, he doesn't have the budget behind him. Hopefully that changes. But back to Gravel, I can proudly say I called this one several years ago when he was running his own #89 prior to joining the All-Star tour. I knew he was going to be special and so far, he's not disappointed one bit. He's taken some lumps along the way but that's all part of it. Making your way up through the sprint car ranks is anything but easy and you've got to make each and every opportunity count which he has. I figured Holtgraver would be right there with him at this point but that hasn't happened.

+1 TSR racing should bring back a 2 outlaw team and put Gravel in it. That will be a good team him and Schatz

Saw an article this weekend where Nelson (Tony's dad) indicated that Tony wants to win a World of Outlaws driver's title before he hangs it up completely.  Alluded to part-time schedule in 2017 and full tour in 2018.  I think it was a link on IndyStar.com

For that reason, I don't see them adding another driver to their stable of cars.

Tony dipping his toes in (as a driver) with the WoO has been a legit rumor for a year or two. If stars align I could see him doing PT in 2017, seeing how that goes then seriously consider going FT after (even for one year).  Kahne has indicated a similar desire.

So, if what you seen was true and Tony joins the WoO chase,  what engines will he run?  As co-owner of a prominate NASCAR team that is switching to FORDS next year, will Ford Motor Co require him to run fords exclussivly?  If not there seems to be a conflict of interest issue here.

Absolutely 100% agree.

I was there as well and at Beaver Dam 4 days earlier.  Gravel was just a speck on my radar the last time I saw him in person--which was the 2015 Nationals.  I watch the youtube replays for the WOO A-mains religiously.  As you watch the season progress, you see him go from running top 5 here and there, to running top 4 or 5 every single race.   Even if he doesn't finish there, he was up there and was fighting for the lead at some point in almost all races. Then, seeing him run in person those two races--he looks like a different guy!

He definitely looks MUCH hungier than anyone else--save Schatz.

I like Gravel but I just don't see him taking out Schatz anytime soon, I think he will be the face of WoO in about 5 years.

I see what you are saying... But Tony did just hotlap a Toyota Midget at the new dirt track at Indy.

I would hope Tony has separated his dirt racing and his ownership of the NASCAR team with Ford.

I am not sure if he was racing a LM the year he drove the Toyota or not but I am sure it would have been a Chevy.

Might be.......I could be jumping the gun saying next year.  (But if he does, I want you to say you heard it here first!)  Smile

That said, I compiled his results from the 10 most recent races of the season:   (FYI--I discarded the race in which he did not transfer to the A)

His average start in the last 10 races was 6.8--and this includes a 20th place and 15th place starting spot.  Throw those out and he averaged a 4.4 starting spot.

His average finishing position in those same 10 races was 4.4.

He's finding a way to start up front and in the average race he gains between 2 and 3 spots per race.  This is a formula for success if it can be sustained.  This is a big improvement from the first 10 races of the season where his average start was 7.5 and he lost 2.3 spots per race on average for an average finish of 9.8.

I am aware that this is not Donny land yet, but I think it is a sign of what is to come.

Gravel sure has showed great improvement over the last 2 years for sure. He seem like a really good guy as well. Another young driver I would like to see get a chance in a great car is Cole Duncan. He does really well in the family car but not sure it is KKR or TSR good.

Even tho neither of them won, Schatz & Gravel had a terrific duel at The Grove last nite, very entertaining

I'm starting to believe he could be a threat at Nationals this year

Amazing thing is that he comes from an area of the country with NO sprint car racing & not a single dirt track, Watertown, Connecticut, my former neck of the woods, right next to my late father's place of employment, & home of my first Rock'n Roll palace, The Shack. Those were the days....Ever hear of The Wildweeds? Young Rascals played there too...

Allman Bros covered this song, classic "blue eyed soul". regional hit in New England & parts of the South. Leader "Big Al" Anderson went on to NRBQ & has been a bigtime songwriter in Nashville for last few decades:

He drives with a lot of confidence and is really aggressive. He's certainly not afraid of Schatz.

He was impressive all week. He flat out drove the shit out of it at Lernerville to hold off Donny and was very strong both nights at Williams Grove. He's gonna be very good some day. He possibly may even be great. He's fearless and he has the talent to back it up.
