(Oxnard CA, 5-17-16) This Saturday night, May 21, Ventura Raceway will feature the USAC Midgets at their Ventura County Fairgrounds facility. This is their first appearance at Ventura in two seasons. Midget racers will be here to race Saturday and make their first of three appearances here in 2016, leading up to the much anticipated Turkey Night Grand Prix to be held at Ventura Raceway in November. These high powered machines will be joined by VRA Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Focus Midgets and Go Karts.
After a two year absence, the mighty USAC Midgets make their return to Ventura Raceway.. This is the first of three USAC Western States Midget races at Ventura Raceway, this season, leading to the highly anticipated 2016 Turkey Night Grand Prix in November. All the top USAC Midget drivers will be here to test out the track and set their sights for the November race. Past USAC and Ventura Raceway Midget Champion, Ronnie Gardner has taken the first two races this season at Bakersfield and Placerville. He will be joined by all the top USAC drivers including Michael Faccinto, Sean Dodenhoff, Randi Pankratz, Terry Nichols, Tylor Dolacki, Courtney Crone, Robert Dalby , Cody Swanson and others. These high powered race cars fly around Ventura Raceway's 1/5 mile clay oval.
VRA Dwarf action saw 2015 VRA Champion Johnny Conley take another win in their 20 lap main event on May 14. He is going all out to repeat as champion but he must overcome the lead of current point leader Jeff Fillingame who has a 160 point advantage so far in 2016. The Dwarf Car field is filled with young chargers who have come a long way in this series. Brandon Wiley, Tommy Velasquez III, Nick Velasquez, Gage Cheek, Chase Lippert, Cody Cowen, Trenton Morley and others are the changing face of VRA Dwarf car competition. When added to the many other fine drivers who have raced for many seasons, this series is in good hands. Other drivers scheduled to compete include the Conley family racers, Johnny, Tim and dad David, point leader Jeff Fillingame, Tommy Velasquez, Tom Stephens Jr., Jason Horton, and many others.
In IMCA action last week, past track champ Aaron Rodarte took the win over his brother Austin Rodarte. This week they will be back to put on exciting open wheel stock car racing. This class of open wheeled, V 8 powered, stock cars always provides exciting on track wild racing action. Other drivers expected to compete include, many time champ Jack Parker, past track champion Donald Houghton, Andrew Greiman, Dennis Eckert, Mark Davis and many others who race this series throughout the western United States.
VRA Hobby Stocks will be in action again this week as well. Trevor Fitzgibbons took another win on April 30. He will be going for four wins in a row this week. These full size stock cars always put on a great night of exciting racing action. Other drivers expected to compete include 2015 champion David Heurung, Tom Stephens Sr., Mike Stanford, the Garvin family drivers Gary Garvin and his son Sam and daughter Christina, 2014 Champion Ernie Malone and many others in this wild and exciting class of V8 powered cars.
The spec engined Ford Focus Midgets will be here as well, Saturday night, with point leader, and last race winner Daniel Anderson heading the field. This class of midget sized racers has been the starting point of many drivers now competing in full midgets and other classes throughout the US. Other drivers expected to compete include Joel Rayborne, Randi Pankratz, Mike Leach and others.
Our final class for tonight will be our VRA Go Karts. Past champions Justin Raper and Kenny Byers Jr. will lead the karts into action this Saturday night. These fast low slung racers speed around the full sized 1/5 mile Ventura oval.
Pit gates open at 12 Noon, with front gates opening at 3:00. Drivers meeting is at 2:45 with warms ups at 3:30. Racing gets under way at 5:30. Admission prices for this event are, $15.00 for Adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Students with ID, Kids 12 and under are free.
