During Hot-Laps about 20 years ago at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa Mi we had two nin-wing cars get together and one of them end up in the 8th, 9th and 10th rows in the turn 4 Grandstands. There was only 4 cars hot-lapping on the half mile track at the time, figure that one out. I was shooting outside the track at Turn 4, for the last time in my career as per the owner, lol....

I remember at Manzy one night, I believe it was Jerry Miller, landed over the fence and in the first few rows of the grandstands in turn 4 right in front of us. I don't think Kieth ever fixed the seat either. The dent was there where the seat caved in forever.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

It's definitely not the best if it's the same as a few years ago.....the way the track is configured (D-shape) the cars are almost headed right towards you as they come out of 2 until it arcs back into 3.

New promotor who's next part of the plan was better fencing and cables. I think he is probably speeding his steps up a bit. Track is super racy this year and even better no tire wear.. Brian took a place that was about done and made a compltete overhaul. I'm sure fences are being looked at tonight..

I bet the insurance sees this video that it will happen.....real soon. Some tracks lve went to for the last 40 years makes me wonder if the insurance seen the fence..or if there was even insurance. Chain link and cable is the only thing that throws cars back on the track.

These are the facts as stated in a Facebook post:
St. Francois County Raceway OFFICIAL Press Release
Saturday Night, April 16, 2016, we had an incident in the first Heat Race of the WAR Sprint Car Series. On the opening lap of the event, a couple racecars got together causing one of them to flip into and over the Racetrack Fence. The car came to a rest on a Secondary Safety Fence, which is located approximately 10-12 feet behind the racetrack fence.
Track Emergency Crews (Fire and EMS) and Track Safety and Recovery Crews were on the scene within seconds to check the well being of the spectators and the driver.
Although people were shaken up and scared, no one was injured in the accident.
The Secondary Safety Fence is an additional barrier placed between the Racetrack Fence and the backstretch grandstands, and is designed with two purposes: 1. Keep fans a safe distance away from the racing surface and Racetrack Fence, and 2. Provide an additional safety barrier should a racecar or car parts overcome the Racetrack Fence. The Secondary Safety Fence did serve its purpose and thankfully no one was injured.
Once the scene was checked and cleared, track crews replaced a damaged fence pole and installed a new strand of safety cable that was damaged. We had approximately 40 minutes of down-time, and once the repairs were made, the racing program resumed.
The safety and well being of everyone in attendance is our number one priority, and we are designing a new track fence now. Installation of the new fence will begin effective immediately following design completion.
