It was the last race of the year at a well known track. I'd loaned one of my motors to a buddy so he could race. It was quite a bit more than what they had and in hot laps he ran up on a slower car going into T1 and ran over his RR. The pits are outside of T1 & T2. They have what you'd think is a good strongfence & wall but my buddy cleared over it. He struck a fellow fatally injuring him. There were no repurcussions.from the family.
we certainly need to be as safe as possible but even then stuff can go wrong

I was taking photos in the infield and had to cross the track between races to use that porta John. When I got done in there they were doing a pace lap for that race so I went and sat in the pit grandstand. I was sitting there watching the race so I could cross the track when the race finished. I wasn't there for a minute when I looked and saw the car flying through the air at it's highest point. It was definately one of those "oh shit, I was just there" moments.
The driver was Ryan Bowers and nobody was hurt. I believe he may be racing with the IRA this weekend.

We got a unique perspective on the other side of the fence. One time I was at Cedar victory lane and a non-wing got bumped and turned straight at me and another guy. It hit the inside wall as we scrambled. The other guy was named Ed and he met his demise on school bus night a few years back. They were trying to remove a bus from the track and the bus fell on him. That's probably why I'm so in tune with safety because we had a birdseye seat of all the wrecks.

I remember the school bus incident that was a very sad situation. In 2004 I was at Lincoln Pa and Dan Dietrich (Danny n Billy's dad) hopped a wheel in turn 4 and came through the fence and almost landed on my lap I had no chance to do anything but duck down his front wing landed on my foot. We were sitting on the front row of the bleachers only because one of my buddies had a foot in a cast otherwise we'd have been up top. A guy came down before I could even move grabbed the wing and ran off with it. Somehow I didn't need to change my gear.
